Burlington, Vt. – Vermont is heading into its hottest stretch of the season so far, with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s and a moderate heat risk expected through Thursday across most of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, this level of heat poses health risks for older adults, young children, and those without access to effective cooling or hydration. A wide swath of Vermont — including Burlington, Rutland, Montpelier, and Brattleboro — will see elevated heat impacts, while higher elevations in the Green Mountains may stay slightly cooler.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, wear light-colored clothing, and limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours. Those without air conditioning should use fans, keep air circulating, and open windows at night to promote cooler indoor temperatures.

In southern parts of New Hampshire and eastern upstate New York, similar heat conditions are expected, especially in Manchester, Keene, and Glens Falls. While this is not considered a major heat event, it’s a sharp contrast to recent spring weather and could strain those unaccustomed to early summer heat.

HeatRisk alerts remain in effect through Thursday evening, and additional updates may be issued if conditions intensify.
