Boston, MA – A powerful early-December storm system is forecast to bring significant snowfall across the Northeast and New England, with the National Weather Service issuing Winter Storm Watches in eight states — spanning Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

The storm is expected to arrive late Monday night and continue through Tuesday evening, with some areas — especially northern New England and interior New York — seeing snow totals of 6 to 10 inches or more.

According to multiple NWS offices, including Albany, Mount Holly, Binghamton, Boston/Norton, Burlington, and Caribou, the storm will likely bring heavy snow bands capable of producing snowfall rates over one inch per hour at times. Travel is expected to be very difficult, particularly during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Forecast models indicate widespread impacts:

  • Pennsylvania & New Jersey: 4–8 inches possible across the Poconos and northern counties.
  • New York & Connecticut: 6–8 inches across the Catskills, Hudson Valley, and Litchfield Hills.
  • Massachusetts & Vermont: 6–10 inches expected in the Berkshires and Green Mountains.
  • Maine & New Hampshire: 6–10 inches possible, with locally higher totals Downeast.

Forecasters urge residents to monitor forecast updates and avoid unnecessary travel as conditions worsen Tuesday. Power outages and school delays are also possible across higher-elevation and inland areas.

The Winter Storm Watches remain in effect from Monday night through Wednesday morning, marking the first widespread significant snow event of the 2025–26 winter season for much of the region.
