Boston, MA – Temperatures across southern New England are set to climb into the upper 80s today, kicking off a stretch of hot, dry summer weather that will affect millions from western Massachusetts to coastal Rhode Island.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, highs on Sunday will reach 88°F in Hartford, New Haven, and Providence, with slightly cooler conditions along the eastern Massachusetts coast due to a persistent sea breeze. Boston and surrounding coastal towns may only see temps in the upper 70s to low 80s, while Provincetown and Nantucket hold near 73–77°F.
Cities like Worcester (85°F), Springfield (86°F), and Waterbury (88°F) will feel the heat most intensely. Officials recommend staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and checking on vulnerable populations.
Beachgoers heading to Cape Cod or the Islands will enjoy milder temps but should still take UV precautions. The NWS noted this is the region’s most widespread warm-up since mid-June and could stretch into early July.
Heat-sensitive residents are advised to use fans or AC and avoid direct sunlight during peak heat (1–5 p.m.). No rain is expected today, and skies should remain mostly clear.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the 80s through at least Wednesday, with the next weather update due Monday morning.
