According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a High Surf Advisory is in effect through Saturday morning for Cape Cod, the Islands, and south coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Large breaking waves will create life-threatening swimming and surfing conditions, along with localized beach erosion. Winds and wave action will also be hazardous for small craft.
Inland, steady rain is expected to continue through tonight before tapering off by early Thursday. The heaviest rainfall is likely across western Massachusetts into Connecticut, though totals could reach 1 to 2 inches in parts of Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Low temperatures will dip into the low to mid-50s overnight.
By Thursday afternoon, showers should clear most of interior Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, though clouds and spotty rain may linger over Cape Cod and the Islands. Highs will hover in the upper 60s to low 70s with breezy northeast winds.
Residents are urged to avoid swimming and surfing during the advisory and to use caution along coastal roads vulnerable to flooding. Conditions may improve gradually Friday, but surf hazards will persist into the weekend.
