BOSTON, Mass. – The calm of early morning won’t last long across eastern Massachusetts. Low clouds are gathering offshore, and a southeast breeze already carries the damp scent of the coming rain. By sunrise Monday, much of the region will be under the steady rhythm of October showers — a stormy start to the new week.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a developing coastal system will bring widespread rain and gusty winds across the region from early Monday through late afternoon. Gusts may reach 40 mph along the South Shore and Cape Ann, while inland towns see breezes around 25 mph. Rainfall totals could approach three-quarters of an inch, enough to slow the morning commute on I-93, Route 1, and the Mass Pike.

By Monday evening, skies will begin to clear from west to east, leaving behind damp streets and patchy fog. Temperatures will hold near the upper 60s before dipping into the upper 40s. Sunshine returns Tuesday with a mild high around 64°F — a perfect day for outdoor chores or late-fall decorating.

Midweek brings another round of scattered showers Wednesday, but the second half of the week looks calmer and cooler. By Thursday and Friday, highs settle in the upper 50s, with crisp, dry air returning just in time for weekend plans.

With leaves at peak color and temperatures trending down, this week marks Boston’s true slide into late-autumn rhythm — wet, windy, and ready for the next seasonal turn.
