BOSTON, Mass. – Light rain is falling across Boston tonight, but drier and brighter conditions are on the way, with sunshine expected to return by Thursday afternoon and continue into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, scattered showers and a chance of thunderstorms will linger overnight, along with areas of patchy fog. Conditions improve by mid-morning Thursday as clouds clear and temperatures climb to the upper 70s.

The break in the wet weather will bring a welcome stretch of sunshine. Friday looks clear with highs near 78, while Saturday will be slightly cooler in the upper 60s before warming back into the low 70s on Sunday. Winds will shift to the southwest by late week, keeping humidity levels comfortable.

Travelers should be aware of patchy fog during the Thursday morning commute, which could reduce visibility on Route 1 and I-93. Otherwise, road and flight conditions are expected to improve quickly as drier air takes hold.

The next chance of unsettled weather comes Wednesday, when another round of showers may move through. Until then, New Englanders can expect several days of mild, sunny weather.
