Boston, MA – Residents across New England should prepare for a warm and relatively dry start to October, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The agency’s latest outlook, issued Thursday, shows above-normal temperatures dominating much of the Northeast from October 2 through October 10. Precipitation, meanwhile, is forecast to trend below average for Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine during the same period.

According to NWS forecasters, the strongest signal for above-normal warmth is expected during the first week of October, with higher-than-usual temperatures across inland New England and parts of coastal Massachusetts. By the second week, warmer conditions remain likely across most of the region, extending north into Maine.

Rainfall projections show a lean toward drier-than-normal conditions. The six-to-ten-day outlook highlights below-normal precipitation probabilities for much of the Northeast, including Boston and southern New England. The eight-to-fourteen-day forecast continues this trend, raising concerns for prolonged dryness.

The warmer and drier pattern could impact fall foliage timing, outdoor activities, and local agriculture. Farmers and gardeners may want to monitor soil conditions closely, while those with travel plans should anticipate unseasonably warm weather for early October.
