CARIBOU, Maine – Northern Maine is bracing for a chilly stretch of mid-October weather, with areas of frost early Tuesday followed by the season’s first chance of rain and snow showers by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, temperatures dipped into the 30s overnight, with frost developing in low-lying areas. Tuesday will stay mostly cloudy with highs near 60°F and light winds. A few isolated afternoon showers are possible.
The real change arrives Wednesday night into Thursday as colder air filters in from Canada. A mix of rain and snow showers is possible late Wednesday night, especially in higher terrain and open countryside. While no accumulation is expected, the brief mix marks a clear shift toward colder autumn conditions.
By Thursday, scattered showers continue with highs only reaching around 50°F. Friday and Saturday bring drier, sunnier weather, though temperatures remain cool — daytime highs in the 50s and overnight lows in the 30s, with more frost possible.
Residents should prepare for cold mornings, the potential for slick spots in rural areas late Wednesday, and the continued cooling trend typical of northern Maine’s rapid transition into late fall.
