Massachusetts – Snow falls thick and steady across eastern Massachusetts, muffling city sounds and shrinking visibility to a few car lengths. Side streets disappear fast, and even major highways struggle to keep up as winter tightens its grip.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across much of Massachusetts, including Boston, through this evening. Snow totals range from 12 to 20 inches, with localized amounts reaching up to 24 inches across parts of eastern and western sections of the state. Travel remains extremely difficult.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, snowfall rates intensify at times, reducing visibility and rapidly covering treated roads. Gusty winds worsen conditions, creating drifting snow and near-whiteout periods. Roads remain snow-covered and slippery, especially during heavier bands.

Major routes including I-90, I-93, Route 128, and surface streets across Boston remain hazardous. Crews continue plowing, but snowfall outpaces clearing. Drivers are urged to delay travel until conditions improve. Even short trips can turn dangerous quickly.

Temperatures hover near 30 degrees today, keeping snow dry and powdery. As snowfall tapers later, clearing skies allow colder air to settle in. Flash freezing becomes a concern tonight as untreated surfaces harden.

Tuesday brings quieter weather, but cold lingers. Highs reach the lower 20s with sunshine offering little warmth. Wednesday stays cold and dry, with highs near the low 20s again. Gradual improvement follows late week. Thursday and Friday remain mostly dry, with highs in the upper teens to low 20s and calmer winds.

Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook suggests drier conditions with slow moderation into early February, though winter remains firmly in control across New England.

Stay off the roads if possible, keep emergency supplies handy, and check on neighbors. How much snow has piled up where you are?
