Boston, MA – A Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday for portions of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as a powerful cold front brings strong northwest winds and rapidly falling temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in Boston.

Forecasters expect sustained winds of 15–25 mph, with gusts up to 45–50 mph across coastal and higher terrain areas, including Cape Cod, the Berkshires, and the Rhode Island coastline. The strongest gusts are expected Thursday evening into early Friday, with potential for isolated tree limb damage and minor power outages.

The gusty winds will be accompanied by a surge of colder air, dropping wind chill values into the teens and single digits by Thursday night. Areas such as Pittsfield, Worcester, and Springfield could feel wind chills as low as 5–10°F, while coastal communities remain in the low 20s.

“Widespread gusts of 35–40 mph with peaks near 50 mph are likely in higher terrain and coastal areas,” the National Weather Service warned in a social media update. “The combination of strong winds and falling temperatures will make it feel much colder Thursday evening.”

Residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations, trash bins, and other loose objects, and to use caution when driving, especially in high-profile vehicles. Those traveling overnight should be prepared for cold, gusty crosswinds and reduced visibility due to blowing snow or debris.

Conditions will gradually improve late Friday morning as winds ease, though temperatures will remain below normal heading into the weekend.
