Boston, MA – A surge of Arctic air is expected to grip New England from December 12 through December 16, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season so far, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, which issued a regional temperature outlook covering much of the eastern U.S.

The forecast calls for temperatures running 60–80% below normal across the region, with daytime highs likely staying below freezing in many northern areas. States expected to feel the deepest chill include Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, with widespread subzero wind chills possible during overnight hours.

Meteorologists say confidence is high that the region will experience a significant cold spell, though exact temperatures remain uncertain. Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and check on friends or neighbors who may not have adequate heating.

The cold pattern is expected to moderate slightly after midweek, but another Arctic surge could follow later in the month.
