Boston, MA – Strong to severe thunderstorms could disrupt parts of New England Saturday afternoon, with the highest risk for damaging weather west of Worcester. Forecasters warn storms may intensify between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m., threatening outdoor events and evening travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, the greatest risk will be across western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut, including Springfield, Greenfield, and Hartford. Storms could produce damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Eastern Massachusetts, including Boston and the South Shore, faces a lower but still notable threat of thunderstorms into the evening.

Emergency managers caution that falling trees and power lines may cause outages, especially in areas where soils remain damp from recent rain. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and stay alert for rapidly changing conditions. Outdoor activities across southern New England should have shelter plans ready as storms may move in quickly.

The storm threat will ease after 10 p.m., but additional updates are expected if conditions become more favorable for severe weather. Residents are advised to monitor NOAA Weather Radio and local alerts for warnings through Saturday night.
