Boston, MA – Mariners from New England to the Mid-Atlantic face treacherous seas through Monday as gale warnings remain in effect across multiple offshore zones, including Georges Bank and waters east of 69W. Winds are forecast to surge to 25 to 35 knots, driving seas up to 14 feet and creating dangerous conditions for fishing and shipping lanes.

According to the National Weather Service’s Ocean Prediction Center, the strongest winds will arrive Monday morning into the afternoon, with scattered thunderstorms and reduced visibility from heavy rain and dense fog. Conditions east of Cape Cod and across Georges Bank could see visibility drop to one nautical mile or less, while seas from Baltimore Canyon to Hatteras Canyon build over 10 feet before gradually subsiding Tuesday.

Mariners are urged to avoid travel during the peak of the storm, secure vessels, and remain in port until seas calm. Crews already offshore should prepare for sudden squalls and be alert for thunderstorms capable of producing higher winds and waves than forecast.

By Tuesday, seas begin to subside to 4 to 6 feet with lighter winds, though patchy fog may continue to reduce visibility into midweek. Small craft conditions will persist until Thursday, when calmer seas near 2 to 4 feet are expected.
