Boston, MA – Triple-digit heat index values could blanket much of southern New England Thursday and Friday, triggering a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. Thursday through 8 p.m. Friday, with the most intense conditions expected Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, heat index values between 95 and 103°F will impact inland Connecticut, most of Massachusetts (excluding the Berkshires and South Coast), and Rhode Island. Cities like Hartford, Worcester, Lowell, Providence, and Boston are all under advisory.

The combination of high temperatures and stifling humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and check on elderly neighbors. Cooling centers are expected to open in several communities, including Springfield, Framingham, and Warwick.

Daytime highs will push into the mid to upper 90s, with dew points in the 70s creating oppressive conditions. This marks one of the region’s hottest stretches this summer, rivaling last July’s heat wave that strained the power grid.

The advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Friday, with the potential for extended alerts if the heat persists into the weekend.

🌤️ Five-Day Outlook for Southern New England

  • Friday: Peak heat; high 97°F, heat index near 103°F
