PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island’s streak of crisp fall sunshine continues through the weekend, but a new system moving in Sunday could bring steady rain and cooler air to end the weekend. After chilly starts, warm afternoons will dominate Friday and Saturday, setting up perfect weather for outdoor activities and fall festivals statewide.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, high pressure remains in control through Saturday, keeping skies clear and winds light. Thursday and Friday will feature highs in the upper 50s to near 60°F, while Saturday warms slightly to around 63°F. North winds could gust up to 20 mph Thursday, but calmer air arrives heading into Friday. Those traveling along I-95 or Route 146 can expect smooth, dry driving conditions through Saturday afternoon.

The pleasant pattern begins to change Sunday as clouds increase and a weak cold front pushes toward southern New England. Rain chances rise sharply late Sunday, with a 60% chance of showers by evening. Roads may become slick Sunday night, creating slower commutes for travelers returning from weekend events or coastal trips. Despite the rain, temperatures stay mild, with highs in the mid-60s before cooling early next week.

Residents should take advantage of the dry weather to wrap up outdoor projects, rake leaves, and prepare for the return of wetter, chillier fall conditions. Monday looks partly sunny but noticeably cooler, with highs in the low 60s and a crisp autumn breeze.
