Boston, MA – The National Weather Service in Boston is warning residents across southern New England to prepare for a sharp blast of Arctic air and powerful northwest wind gusts late Thursday into early Friday.

Forecasters say the cold front will sweep through between 2 PM and 7 PM, producing wind gusts of 40–55 mph and the potential for brief snow squalls, especially in western and northern Massachusetts. Locations such as Pittsfield, Greenfield, and Fitchburg may see the strongest gusts and reduced visibility in blowing snow.

Behind the front, temperatures will plummet, and wind chills will range from -10°F in the Berkshires to near 10°F along the coast by late tonight. The NWS warns that exposed skin could freeze within minutes in the coldest spots and urges residents to limit time outdoors and bundle up in layers if travel is necessary.

Winds are expected to diminish by early Friday, but morning temperatures will remain frigid before rebounding into the 20s and 30s by afternoon.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor decorations or loose items and monitor power outages as the front moves through.
