Newark, DE – Delaware State Police arrested 45-year-old Matthew Ward of Elkton, Maryland, in connection with a series of burglaries at a Newark business that totaled more than $44,000 in stolen copper wire and thousands in property damage.

According to Delaware State Police Troop 2 Property Crimes detectives, the investigation began after multiple burglaries were reported at United Lines Construction Services (ULCS) on Ogletown Road in Newark. Between September 30 and October 21, 2025, the suspect allegedly cut through the company’s fence on four separate occasions to steal copper wire and lighting equipment.

During those incidents, police say the suspect caused approximately $3,000 in damage to ULCS property. The largest theft occurred on October 9, when more than $23,000 in copper wire and lighting materials were taken.

Detectives identified Ward as the suspect through investigative means and took him into custody on October 23, 2025, without incident in Newark.

Ward faces multiple felony charges, including six counts of Burglary Third Degree, three counts of Felony Theft, and additional counts of Possession of Burglary Tools, Criminal Mischief, Theft Under $1,500, and Criminal Trespass. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on a $6,800 unsecured bond.
