New Castle, DE – Delaware State Police arrested 27-year-old Najee Chambers of Middletown after investigating a reported robbery that later turned out to be an assault in New Castle.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers responded around 6 p.m. on October 24, 2025, to a warehouse complex on the 2400 block of Bear Corbitt Road for what was initially believed to be a robbery. Investigators say a 25-year-old Newark man had arranged to sell Apple products to another individual after messaging him earlier that day.

When the buyer arrived in a dark-colored SUV, he allegedly exited the passenger side and attempted to take the items by force. During the altercation, police say the suspect displayed what appeared to be a handgun and struck the victim several times in the back of the head before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives later identified Najee Chambers as the suspect and determined that he and the victim were previously acquainted. While no robbery occurred, investigators allege that Chambers assaulted the victim with a handgun.

Chambers was arrested without incident on October 27, 2025, in Bear. He was charged with Assault First Degree (Felony), arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $60,000 cash bond.
