Wilmington, DE – Police are investigating an armed robbery and carjacking that unfolded Wednesday night at a shopping center in Wilmington, leaving one man shaken but uninjured.

According to the Delaware State Police, troopers responded around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to a shopping center in the 1900 block of Maryland Avenue following reports of an armed robbery. Investigators say two male suspects, both armed with handguns, approached a man sitting inside his Toyota Corolla.

Police say the suspects allegedly ordered the victim out of the vehicle and forced him to lie on the ground. One of the suspects then took cash from the victim before both men fled the scene in the stolen car. The victim was not physically injured during the incident.

Nearly an hour later, troopers spotted the stolen Toyota Corolla near 27th Street and Rosemont Avenue in Wilmington. Police say the vehicle was occupied by two men, but when a trooper attempted a traffic stop, the suspects ran from the vehicle on foot, leaving it behind. They were not immediately apprehended.

The suspects are described as males with slim builds, approximately 16 to 20 years old, wearing dark-colored clothing and ski masks, according to state police.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit has taken over the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Detective M. Armstrong at (302) 365-8440. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
