Wilmington, DE – Two women were arrested Monday after Delaware State Police troopers allegedly recovered more than a pound of methamphetamine during a months-long drug investigation in New Castle County.

According to Delaware State Police, 26-year-old Jamiyah Dennis of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, and 19-year-old Kaliyah Barnes of Newark, Delaware, were taken into custody on September 8, 2025, following a multi-agency operation led by the Troop 2 Drug Task Force. Detectives had been investigating Dennis for several months and reported multiple sales of methamphetamine totaling about 310 grams. Investigators obtained a warrant for her arrest earlier in the month.

Troopers said Dennis was spotted in the 100 block of West 41st Street in Wilmington, carrying a large bag believed to contain narcotics. When officers moved in, Dennis allegedly tried to flee on foot before being caught. Police added that she resisted arrest and allegedly kicked a trooper while attempting to escape from a patrol vehicle.

Following the arrest, officers searched Dennis and her belongings, reportedly finding about 456 grams (1 pound) of methamphetamine. A short time later, troopers stopped a Chevrolet Traverse allegedly driven by Barnes, who was taken into custody without incident. Investigators said Barnes knowingly assisted Dennis by transporting her while she was in possession of narcotics.

Both Dennis and Barnes were transported to Troop 2 and charged with multiple crimes. Police confirmed Dennis was arraigned and committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $212,000 cash bond.
