Townsend, DE – Detectives in New Castle County are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday night at the Dollar General on Dupont Parkway in Townsend, prompting a renewed call for tips as police work to identify the suspect.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers were called around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday after an employee reported that a man entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. Investigators said the suspect forced an employee toward an office area where a second worker was located. The suspect allegedly attempted to kick open a secured office door but was unable to get inside.

Police said the suspect again demanded money from the register but ran from the store on foot once he learned troopers were responding. No injuries were reported.

According to police, the suspect is described as a thin Black male wearing a black ski mask and dark clothing. Authorities said he fled in an unknown direction and may have left the area quickly before units arrived.

Detectives with Delaware State Police Troop 2 continue to investigate and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident—or who may have video footage from the area around the time of the robbery—to contact Detective J. Dempsey at (302) 365-8472. Information can also be submitted via private Facebook message to Delaware State Police or through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
