New Castle County Assault: Suspect Arrested at Movie Theater After Alleged Bus Driver Attack

Newark, DE – A DART bus driver suffered serious injuries Thursday afternoon after an alleged assault at Peoples Plaza in Newark, according to the Delaware State Police. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on December 4, 2025.

According to state police, troopers responded to a report of an assault involving a female bus driver who was allegedly attacked by a man later identified as 22-year-old Larry Bryant of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Investigators said the bus driver had been returning to her vehicle from a nearby business when Bryant allegedly began following her, making her feel unsafe.

Police said the driver asked Bryant to stop following her and attempted to call 911 when he refused. Bryant allegedly struck the driver in the face before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Troopers later located Bryant inside a Regal Cinemas at Peoples Plaza and arrested him without incident. Investigators also reported that Bryant allegedly entered the theater without paying for admission.

Bryant was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with multiple offenses related to the alleged assault. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $6,000 secured bond, according to police.

Authorities did not release additional details about the bus driver’s condition but emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Residents in the Newark and greater New Castle County area are encouraged to contact state police if they witnessed the incident or have further information.
