LAS VEGAS — Ring in the new year away from the glitz and glam of the Strip at festive celebrations across the Nevada desert.

While the Strip fireworks draw global attention, Nevada has plenty of exciting and alternative celebrations to explore this year. From fireworks over a lake to stargazing in the desert, here are a few memorable spots to welcome 2026.

Lake Tahoe (Nevada side)

Every year, the Tahoe region hosts a spectacular New Year’s Eve celebration that includes showstopping fireworks over the lake and a Gondola ball drop. The Heavenly Holidays Festival runs for two weeks at Heavenly Village, beginning Friday, Nov. 28, 2025, with a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and wrapping up on New Year’s Eve.

In addition to fireworks, there will be live music from Eric Paslay. Admission to the event is free.

Reno / Sparks and the Truckee River Walk District

Reno’s downtown district and nearby Truckee River Walk are popular spots to celebrate the countdown to the new year. Reno offers downtown fireworks, ballroom drops, and all the glamor outside of the Las Vegas Strip. These celebrations are a more relaxed alternative to Vegas, but fun for the whole family.

Pahrump and Desert Stargazing Spots

Ring in the new year with nature’s fireworks by skipping the downtown celebrations and stargazing in the desert. The surrounding desert areas of Nevada, like Pahrump, offer some of the best experiences for stargazing. Spend the evening away from crowds and usher in 2026 in an “off-the-grid” way.
