Reno, Nev. – A moderate winter storm will bring dangerous driving conditions to the Lake Tahoe region and surrounding counties beginning late Friday, with snow totals peaking overnight into Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Friday through 11 a.m. Sunday for Mono County and the Tahoe Basin. For southern Lyon and Mineral counties above 5,000 feet, the advisory spans the same timeframe.

Snowfall amounts of 3–6 inches are expected across much of the region, with the heaviest totals—up to 10 inches—likely in higher elevations, including the White Mountains. Travel will become hazardous late Friday, particularly overnight, as roads become slick and visibility drops.

Commuters should expect delays, especially Saturday morning. Chains may be required on major mountain passes, and isolated snow bands could lead to rapidly changing conditions. Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel, charge devices, and prepare for potential power outages.

Hazardous conditions are likely to persist through early Sunday. Additional weather statements may be issued if snowfall intensifies.
