Hawthorne, Nev. – Drivers in southern Nevada’s higher elevations should brace for slick and snow-covered roads beginning Friday evening, with up to a foot of snow possible in Mineral and Lyon counties through Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Sunday above 5,000 feet. Snow accumulations between 3 to 6 inches are expected, with isolated totals of 10 to 12 inches near the highest peaks. The heaviest snowfall is forecast Friday night into Saturday morning.
Key travel routes including Highways 359, 338, and 6 could see hazardous conditions, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Though snow may struggle to stick to road surfaces during the day, isolated heavy showers on Saturday afternoon could still create dangerous conditions.
Residents and travelers are urged to delay non-essential travel, drive cautiously, and check Nevada 511 for real-time road updates. Prepare for rapidly changing mountain weather by packing blankets, food, and emergency supplies.
Winter weather warnings remain active through Sunday, with updates likely as the storm progresses.
