LAS VEGAS — The Southern Nevada Water Authority is reminding residents to be aware of winter watering restrictions in effect during January.
From Nov. 1, 2025, until Feb. 28, 2026, SNWA will implement its scheduled winter watering restrictions. The schedule limits watering grass, plants, and trees to one day a week and strictly prohibits watering on a Sunday. The exact watering day can be found using SNWA’s website, where residents can simply input their physical address.
When watering lawns on the assigned day, SNWA recommends using three four-minute cycles, allowing about one hour between each cycle when using pop-up sprinklers.
Watering outside of assigned days can result in a water waste fine. The fines are calculated via meter size, the history of violations, and the drought stage. For example, a first-time offence in a space 1 meter or less will result in an $80 fine. Fines can cost up to $5,120 for 5th time violations in areas greater than 3 meters.
SNWA also offers some winter watering tips to save water and reduce water waste:
- Aerate your soil to allow for better water absorption
- Avoid watering in afternoon winds
- Choose Bermuda grass, as it is dormant during winter
Watering newly installed or reseeded landscapes daily is permitted for up to 14 days, once per calendar year. Residents must notify SNWA so the exemption can be noted on their accounts.
