LAS VEGAS — As Las Vegas heads into the winter season, NV Energy is reminding customers how to use electricity safely and efficiently.

NV Energy’s current Power Safe NV program is an all-year-round initiative that uses system upgrades and new tech to build a safer grid for Nevada that can withstand climate risks. The program is helping customers and communities get winter storm-ready by implementing infrastructure upgrades, routine inspections to address risks, and expanding situational awareness.

Alongside the program, NV Energy has offered several tips for staying warm. The utility advises using natural sunlight by opening curtains on south-facing windows during the day and closing them at night to reduce heat loss. Weatherstripping can be done around doors and windows to prevent warm air from escaping. The utility reminds customers to regularly maintain heating systems and replace old filters.

To lower monthly costs, the utility also suggests switching to LED bulbs, setting your water heater to 120°F, and insulating hot-water pipes. If you’re not home during the day, NV Energy recommends lowering the thermostat to 55°F or switching to a programmable smart thermostat from NV Energy’s Powershift Program.
