Elko, NV – A powerful winter storm is set to impact parts of Nevada starting Sunday afternoon, bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions through early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Elko, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Tuesday for the Ruby Mountains and East Humboldt Range, where 1 to 2 feet of snow is expected. Winds could gust up to 50 mph on exposed ridgetops, potentially causing tree damage and making travel dangerous.

In Southern Lander and Southern Eureka counties, another Winter Storm Warning is active from 4 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Tuesday. The region could see 5 to 10 inches of snow, with higher amounts at summits and passes. Commuters on Monday should prepare for difficult driving conditions, especially on mountain roads and highways.

The storm’s impacts include reduced visibility, icy roads, and the possibility of road closures in higher elevations. Drivers are urged to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water.

For updated road conditions, travelers can dial 511 or visit the Nevada Department of Transportation website. Officials advise delaying non-essential travel and exercising caution throughout the storm’s duration.
