Nevada Winter Storm: Up to 30 Inches of Snow, Hazardous Travel Until Tuesday

Reno, NV – A powerful winter storm continues to impact northern and central Nevada, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds, making travel hazardous across multiple regions. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories across several counties, with snowfall expected to last through Monday night and early Tuesday in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, heavy snow is expected above 5,000 feet in the Western Nevada Basin and Range, including Pyramid Lake. Additional accumulations of 3 to 7 inches are possible, with winds gusting up to 35 mph. Areas below 5,000 feet may see up to 3 inches of snow. Travel on I-80 in eastern Pershing County and US-50 in eastern Churchill County is expected to be difficult until conditions improve later this morning.

Further east, the National Weather Service in Elko has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Northern and Southern Lander and Eureka Counties, with up to 10 inches of snow expected and locally higher amounts of 15 inches near summits. The warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Monday. The Ruby Mountains and East Humboldt Range face even heavier snowfall, with up to 30 inches possible and gusts reaching 50 mph, making travel nearly impossible through early Tuesday.
