Reno, NV – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Reno and the surrounding areas, including I-580, bringing snow, strong winds, and freezing temperatures through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is likely to begin early Thursday, with a mix of rain and snow continuing into Friday. Winds will increase throughout the day, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph, potentially reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions. Drivers along I-580 and surrounding roadways should prepare for delays, especially in higher elevations where snowfall accumulation is expected.

By Friday night, temperatures will plummet to the teens, with lows reaching 13°F by Saturday morning. The cold snap will persist through the weekend, keeping roads icy and conditions bitterly cold.

Saturday will bring some relief with mostly sunny skies, but temperatures will struggle to rise above 39°F. Overnight lows will remain in the teens, with another clear but cold day expected Sunday. With dry conditions forecasted, outdoor activities may resume, but residents should dress warmly and be cautious of lingering icy spots on roads and sidewalks.

Looking ahead, early next week remains cold, with highs in the upper 30s and mostly clear skies. Another storm system could develop later in the week, potentially bringing more precipitation.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items ahead of the high winds and allow extra time for travel. Those heading into the mountains should check road conditions and be prepared for snow-covered roads and strong gusts.
