Las Vegas, NV — Damaging winds up to 70 mph are slamming Southern Nevada today, triggering travel hazards and power outage risks across the region.

A High Wind Warning remains in effect for Las Vegas, the Red Rock Canyon area, and surrounding parts of Clark and Nye counties until 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Gusty southwest winds between 55 to 65 mph could knock down trees, power lines, and cause dangerous driving conditions, especially along US-95 and I-15.

Motorists in high-profile vehicles are urged to avoid travel during peak gust periods this evening. Pockets of blowing dust will reduce visibility throughout exposed desert corridors, particularly near Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon.

The strongest winds are expected late Monday afternoon into the evening, with gusts possibly topping 70 mph in ridge areas, forecasters warn. Clark County residents should secure outdoor items and avoid parking under trees. Power outages are possible, and residents should charge devices and prepare emergency kits.

By Tuesday, winds will taper off with a calmer, sunny day expected and a high near 68°F. The remainder of the week looks seasonally mild, offering a break from Monday’s intense conditions.

5-Day Weather Outlook for Las Vegas:

  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 66°F.
