Reno, Nevada – Nevada is entering a noticeable pattern change as above-normal temperatures take hold during the February 7–20 period, bringing a milder, more spring-like feel to much of the state after a stretch of colder winter weather.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across Nevada are expected to trend above seasonal averages through mid-February. Western and northern Nevada, including Reno, Carson City, and the Tahoe Basin, are likely to see milder daytime highs, while overnight lows remain less extreme than earlier in the month. Southern Nevada, including Las Vegas, is also expected to warm, with afternoon temperatures climbing above typical February levels.

While temperatures trend warmer, the pattern will not be completely dry. Pacific systems are expected to move through the region at times, bringing periodic chances for precipitation. In northern Nevada, this may fall as rain in lower elevations, with snow limited mainly to higher terrain. Across central and southern Nevada, precipitation chances remain lower but not zero, with occasional rain showers possible.

In the Sierra and higher elevations near the California border, warmer air may push snow levels higher during precipitation events, allowing rain at lower passes while snow continues at higher elevations. This could lead to changing travel conditions along Interstate 80, U.S. 395, and mountain routes during passing systems.

The milder pattern follows weeks of active winter weather across other parts of the country and offers Nevada a temporary break from harsh cold. Transportation officials advise drivers to remain cautious during precipitation events, particularly in mountain corridors where conditions can change quickly.

Forecasters stress that while the trend leans warmer, winter is not over. Additional pattern shifts remain possible later in the month. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates as precipitation timing becomes clearer during the February 7–20 window.
