RENO – Golden sunlight spills across the Truckee Meadows this morning, the crisp fall air carrying just a hint of chill. But change is on the horizon. After a weekend of warmth, northern Nevada will see a November pattern shift this week — from clear, calm skies to clouds, rain, and cooler air moving in by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, the next 48 hours stay mild and dry, with highs near 70°F through Monday. Light winds and sunny skies make it perfect for late fall yard work or leaf cleanup, though those heading into the Sierra should prepare for a shift starting late Tuesday. Clouds will increase through the day as a Pacific system approaches, bringing the region’s first widespread rain chances of the month.
Showers arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday, accompanied by breezy southwest winds gusting up to 25 mph. Rain will spread across Reno, Sparks, and Carson City, while snow levels drop to near 7,400 feet, likely affecting higher I-80 passes near Donner Summit and ski country west of Lake Tahoe.
By Wednesday, temperatures will fall sharply — highs near 57°F — marking the start of a cooler, wetter trend typical of La Niña Novembers. Precipitation should taper Wednesday night, giving way to drier conditions Thursday and Friday with highs rebounding into the mid-60s.
Looking ahead, longer-range models suggest another round of Pacific moisture could arrive just before Thanksgiving, possibly with lower snow levels — an early-season sign winter isn’t far behind.
