Ely, Nev. – A Wind Advisory has been issued for much of central and eastern Nevada from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. PDT Thursday, with south winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected, according to the National Weather Service in Elko.
The advisory includes White Pine, Southern Lander, Southern Eureka, and portions of Nye County, affecting communities such as Ely, Tonopah, Eureka, McGill, and Round Mountain. The strongest gusts are expected during the afternoon hours along U.S. Highway 50 and U.S. 6, where open desert terrain can amplify wind speeds and visibility concerns.
According to the weather service, blowing dust could reduce visibility to one mile or less at times, particularly near dry lakebeds and construction zones. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution on north–south routes, and residents are urged to secure outdoor items like patio furniture, garbage cans, and Halloween decorations ahead of the wind event.
Power lines and tree limbs could also be affected, leading to isolated outages. The Nevada Department of Transportation advises motorists to check road conditions before travel and be alert for sudden crosswinds.
Winds will gradually diminish Thursday night, followed by cooler temperatures and clearer skies heading into the weekend.
