Reno, NV – A powerful winter storm will hit northern Nevada early Thursday, bringing heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions across the Reno-Carson City area. Forecasters warn of snowfall between 1 and 5 inches in lower elevations, with up to a foot expected in foothill areas above 5,500 feet.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will begin early Thursday morning and continue through the night. Commuters should prepare for difficult driving conditions, especially along I-580 and U.S. 395. Periods of moderate to heavy snowfall are expected, with rain possibly mixing in across lower valleys by the afternoon.

Temperatures will remain cold, with highs in the mid-40s and lows in the 20s. The storm will taper off by Friday, but lingering rain and snow showers may persist. Valentine’s Day weekend looks clearer, with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 40s.

Drivers are urged to check road conditions and allow extra travel time. The Nevada Department of Transportation advises carrying snow chains and emergency supplies. Stay updated on forecasts as the storm approaches.
