Reno, Nevada – Blistering temperatures will grip western Nevada starting Thursday as a string of triple-digit highs take aim at Reno and surrounding areas along the I-580 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, daytime highs will climb sharply beginning Thursday, July 10, reaching 92°F before peaking near 99°F on Saturday and 100°F by Sunday and Monday. Calm morning winds will offer little relief, with overnight lows staying in the mid-60s. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
This weekend’s heat will be the most intense of the summer so far, with the city poised to approach or exceed 100°F for at least three consecutive days. Drivers on I-580 and U.S. 395 should plan for vehicle stress, including tire blowouts and overheated engines. Pack extra water and don’t leave children or pets inside parked cars.
The heat will persist through early next week, with little overnight cooling and continued sunny skies each day. Cooling centers may open if conditions worsen.
