Nevada wakes up under clear skies, but the calm won’t last. Cold air rests quietly in the valleys while sunlight begins warming the high desert fast.
Temperatures climb quickly today, reaching near 60 degrees by afternoon. Roads across Reno and Sparks stay dry for now, and travel along I-80 looks smooth early. To be fair, it feels more like early spring than February for a few hours.
Tonight stays mostly clear and chilly, with lows near the low 30s. Sunday turns even warmer, pushing highs into the low 60s under mostly sunny skies. Outdoor plans should be fine, though snowpack remains visible on nearby peaks.
Changes arrive late Sunday night. Clouds increase, and a slight chance of rain develops after dark. Snow levels start high, near 7,500 feet, but they steadily fall overnight. By Monday, rain lingers into the morning, with snow levels dropping closer to 5,900 feet.
By Monday night, colder air deepens. Rain mixes with snow at times, especially north of Reno and along higher stretches of I-80. While little accumulation is expected in the valley, slick spots could develop after sunset as temperatures dip below freezing.
Tuesday brings the highest impact window. Highs fall into the mid-40s, and rain and snow chances increase to around 50 percent. Snow levels hover near 5,100 feet, making foothill travel more hazardous. Drivers should plan extra time and watch for reduced visibility during showers.
Tuesday night and Wednesday stay cold. Lows dip into the mid-20s, and additional snow showers remain possible. Flash freezing becomes a concern where daytime moisture refreezes after dark.
Looking ahead, midweek conditions gradually stabilize. By late next week, a warming trend appears likely, with highs rebounding toward the upper 40s and low 50s.
For now, enjoy the sunshine, but prepare for changing road conditions by Monday night. Traveling through the passes this week? What are you seeing where you are?
