Nevada wakes up to a biting February chill, with temperatures near 28 degrees under mostly cloudy skies in Reno. The air feels crisp across the Truckee Meadows, and frost coats windshields along I-80 and U.S. 395.

Calm winds are keeping the cold locked in early this morning. Roads remain dry for now, but shaded spots could feel slick at sunrise. This is the time of year when flash freezing can catch drivers off guard after mild afternoons.

Skies turn mostly sunny later today with highs reaching 51 degrees. Friday warms further, topping out near 54 under mostly sunny skies. It’s a pleasant rebound and a nice lead-in to Valentine’s Day plans.

Saturday brings the warmest day of the stretch, with highs near 57 and partly sunny skies. Southwest winds increase slightly in the afternoon. Outdoor plans look favorable through daylight hours.

Changes arrive Sunday. A slight chance of rain develops after 10 a.m., with snow levels around 5,100 feet rising to 5,700 feet during the afternoon. Reno stays mainly rain during the day with highs near 54. However, conditions shift Sunday night. Rain becomes likely before 1 a.m., then transitions to a rain and snow mix as snow levels hover near 5,500 feet. Lows fall to around 30 degrees.

Travelers over Donner Pass and along I-80 should monitor conditions closely. Snow levels drop to near 4,900 feet by Monday, and periods of snow are possible into early next week. Slushy roads and reduced visibility may develop quickly after sunset.

Looking ahead, a broader U.S. warming trend builds late next week, with milder air spreading across much of the West.

Five-Day Outlook for Reno, Nevada:
Today: Mostly sunny, high 51.
Friday: Mostly sunny, high 54.
Saturday (Valentine’s Day): Partly sunny, high 57.
Sunday: Slight chance rain, high 54.
