Reno, NV – Thunderstorms are expected to impact the Sierra and western Nevada beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing into early Friday morning, bringing the potential for flooding and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, showers and storms will develop around 12 p.m. Thursday and could linger until 6 a.m. Friday. While winds and hail remain a low risk, localized flooding poses a moderate concern, particularly in urban areas and near burn scars.

The heaviest activity is projected between 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday across areas including Reno, Carson City, South Lake Tahoe, and Fallon. A secondary window of storm activity is likely to continue overnight across central Nevada, including Lovelock, Battle Mountain, and Austin, through early Friday morning.

Forecasters warn that training thunderstorms—repeated rounds of rain over the same locations—could lead to significant water accumulation on roads, low-lying areas, and creeks. Drivers are urged to use caution during the evening commute and overnight hours, when visibility and road conditions may worsen.

Coverage will be scattered in western Nevada and isolated in the Sierra, with showers lingering into Friday. Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and prepare for possible delays or detours due to flooding.
