Reno, Nevada – Reno could see fast-building thunderstorms by 2 p.m. Wednesday as heat and moisture combine to create volatile summer weather.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon across Washoe County, with calm winds shifting northwest up to 5 mph. These storms may bring brief heavy rainfall, lightning, and localized wind gusts, especially along I-580 and U.S. 395 corridors. Residents should secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid high-elevation drives during peak storm hours.

While storms taper off by late Wednesday night, a dry, hot pattern returns Thursday through the weekend. Highs will climb to the upper 80s and stay steady through Saturday, August 2nd, with no rain expected after midweek. Skies will be mostly sunny during the day and mostly clear at night, offering a typical summer pattern.

Drivers, hikers, and outdoor workers should stay hydrated and limit activity during peak heat hours this weekend. Power usage is also expected to spike as air conditioning demand increases.

More advisories may follow if instability continues over the Sierra Nevada. Stay tuned to NWS Reno for updated radar and alerts.
