Reno, NV – Nevada Weather Alert: Freezing fog is creating hazardous travel conditions this morning across multiple regions of northern Nevada, with the National Weather Service issuing advisories for both the Reno–Carson City–Minden area and Humboldt County. The alerts remain in effect until 9 a.m. PST.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Reno and Elko, visibility has dropped below one mile in many areas—including Sparks, Fernley, Fallon, Verdi, Pyramid Lake, Winnemucca, and surrounding communities. In some locations, visibility may fall to near zero at times.

Forecasters warn that freezing fog can quickly coat roadways, overpasses, and bridges with a thin layer of ice, making early-morning driving especially dangerous. Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra stopping distance between vehicles.

The Reno advisory covers the Greater Reno–Carson City–Minden area as well as the Western Nevada Basin and Range. Cities affected include Lovelock, Imlay, Virginia City, Silver Springs, Gardnerville, Nixon, and nearby corridors.

In Humboldt County, including Golconda, Winnemucca, Valmy, and Dufferena, conditions are similar with visibility of one mile or less in widespread freezing fog.

Forecasters say the fog should gradually lift after mid-morning as temperatures rise, but drivers should expect lingering slick spots—especially on shaded roads and higher elevations.

Officials advise that anyone commuting early this morning take precautions and plan for slower travel times.
