Reno, Nevada – Scorching temperatures will grip western Nevada this week, with Reno pushing 96°F by Wednesday afternoon — and no cooling in sight.

According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, with continued risk of heat illness for residents and commuters through the weekend. Daytime highs are expected to stay in the mid-90s through Friday, and overnight lows won’t drop below the low 60s — providing little relief. Drivers along I-580 and U.S. 395 should avoid peak-hour travel and keep extra water in vehicles.

Wednesday (July 16) will be sunny and dry with light afternoon winds. Temperatures will climb to 96°F under calm skies, continuing a dangerous heat pattern that began Monday. By Thursday and Friday, highs remain steady near 94–95°F with gusts near 20 mph possible on Thursday afternoon. No precipitation is expected through the weekend.

Residents should limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day (2–6 p.m.), wear lightweight clothing, and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles.

Looking ahead, Saturday through Monday brings more of the same. Expect sunny skies, daily highs in the mid-90s, and overnight lows stuck in the upper 50s. By Monday (July 21), Reno may cool slightly to 92°F, though the dry heat persists.

Hazardous heat is likely to return later next week. Stay tuned for updates as extended outlooks become available.
