Reno, Nev. – Rain and thunderstorms may slow commutes across western Nevada Monday and Tuesday, with slick roads and gusty winds creating travel hazards. Motorists along I-580 and U.S. 395 should allow extra time and use caution as storms move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, showers are likely Monday with a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon. Winds will strengthen from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts near 25 mph. Tuesday morning brings a 20 percent chance of lingering showers before skies clear in the afternoon.

The cooler air arriving midweek signals a seasonal shift as October begins. Highs will fall into the upper 60s to near 70, with clearer skies by Wednesday and Thursday. Nights will turn crisp, dipping into the low 40s. Outdoor plans for later in the week look favorable, though early-week storms may cause short-term disruptions.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm activity, secure outdoor items vulnerable to gusts, and keep devices charged in case of isolated power outages.

By Wednesday, Reno and surrounding valleys should see drier, calmer conditions, with sunshine dominating into the weekend. Still, forecasters warn that scattered showers may return late in the week if patterns shift.
