Reno, Nevada – Drivers and hikers in northern Nevada should brace for a messy mix of spring rain and snow starting late Friday, with weekend travel on I-580 potentially impacted by slick conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, rain showers will begin Friday afternoon with snow levels lowering overnight. By Saturday morning, colder air will bring snow as low as 5,800 feet. Winds will increase, with gusts up to 15 mph through Sunday, making travel in the foothills and higher elevations more difficult.
On Saturday, rain and snow are likely before noon, with lingering showers into the night. Snow levels will drop to 5,500 feet, and although accumulations are expected to be light, reduced visibility and slick roads may pose hazards. Those in Sun Valley, Lemmon Valley, and along Mount Rose Highway should be alert for changing conditions.
Sunday morning could still bring scattered showers, with clearing skies expected by afternoon. Temperatures will hover near 56°F, well below average for late April. Residents should delay non-essential mountain travel and keep devices charged in case of outages during wind gusts.
Looking ahead:
- Monday: Sunny and warmer, high near 66°F
- Monday Night: Mostly clear, low around 41°F
- Tuesday: Sunny again, high near 73°F
- Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, low around 46°F
- Wednesday: High near 74°F, springlike and dry
