Las Vegas, Nev. – Near-record September heat continues in southern Nevada Tuesday, keeping Las Vegas residents and I-15 drivers on alert as highs approach 97°F. Officials urge people working outdoors or traveling midday to plan for water breaks and avoid peak heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, light winds will accompany the dry conditions Tuesday before temperatures reach their peak by afternoon. Overnight lows will only dip into the mid-70s, offering little relief for overnight travelers and residents without strong cooling options.

The week shifts later, with increasing moisture raising storm chances by Thursday night into Friday. Thunderstorms could bring localized downpours and gusty winds across Clark County, potentially slowing commutes and creating slick roadways. Travelers on I-15 and US-95 should be prepared for sudden changes in conditions, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours.

Wednesday will stay hot but dry, with highs near 98°F, before clouds increase Thursday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible into the weekend, providing some relief from the persistent heat. Outdoor events and tourism-heavy areas such as the Strip may see brief weather-related disruptions.

Residents should continue monitoring advisories this week. Keep vehicles stocked with water, avoid unnecessary afternoon travel, and secure outdoor items that storms could toss around by Friday.
