Las Vegas, Nevada – Cooler temperatures and increasing rain chances are expected to impact New Year’s Eve celebrations across the Las Vegas Valley, with light rainfall possible into early New Year’s Day.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, temperatures on New Year’s Eve will gradually fall from the upper 50s during the afternoon into the upper 40s to near 50 degrees by midnight. While conditions will not be unusually cold, the combination of cooler temperatures and rain could affect outdoor plans along the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding areas.
Forecast data shows rain chances increasing through the day, with probabilities rising from around 15 percent during the afternoon to 65 percent by the evening and overnight hours. Light rain is expected to continue into the early morning hours of January 1, though rainfall amounts are forecast to remain minimal.
Meteorologists note there is still uncertainty regarding the exact onset of rainfall, particularly during the late afternoon and early evening. Some locations may remain dry longer than others, while brief showers could begin earlier in the evening in parts of the valley.
Winds are expected to remain light, limiting additional weather impacts. No winter weather hazards or flooding concerns are anticipated, but damp conditions may lead to slick road surfaces, especially in high-traffic areas during peak celebration hours.
Public safety officials advise those attending outdoor events, fireworks displays, or walking the Strip to dress in layers, prepare for light rain, and allow extra travel time due to holiday congestion and possible wet roads.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later on New Year’s Day, with lingering clouds but decreasing rain chances. Residents and visitors are encouraged to check updated forecasts before heading out, as small timing changes could affect evening plans.
