Las Vegas, Nevada – Scorching heat and thick haze continue to blanket southern Nevada Friday as wildfire smoke drifts across the region, raising health concerns for sensitive groups and outdoor workers.

According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, above-normal temperatures and hazy skies are expected throughout the day as smoke from nearby wildfires overspreads Clark County and surrounding areas. Air quality alerts remain in effect, especially for Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, and Summerlin, where conditions may reach unhealthy levels during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Anyone sensitive to heat or poor air quality—including children, seniors, and those with respiratory conditions—should take precautions by limiting time outdoors and avoiding strenuous activities. Health officials urge residents to move intense physical activities indoors and to schedule outdoor plans for the early morning or late evening when temperatures are lower and smoke may thin out. Major roads like I-15, US-95, and I-215 could see reduced visibility, impacting commutes and travel safety.

This extended heat and haze event is similar to the wildfire-driven air quality issues southern Nevada experienced in July 2021. Residents are advised to monitor local air quality updates at airnow.gov and be prepared for additional advisories if wildfires intensify.

Hot, smoky conditions are likely to persist into the weekend. Additional warnings could be issued if air quality worsens.
