Las Vegas, NV – A powerful wind system is expected to sweep across southern Nevada on Monday, bringing dangerous gusts and potential travel disruptions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, a previously issued High Wind Watch has been upgraded to a High Wind Warning, effective Monday, March 31. Wind speeds are forecast to range between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 65 mph in some areas. A Wind Advisory is also in effect for surrounding locations with gusts up to 55 mph.
Communities from Pahrump and Beatty to Tonopah, Bishop, and Mesquite will face hazardous driving conditions, particularly along highways I-40, U.S. 95, and U.S. 395, due to strong crosswinds and blowing dust. Boaters are also urged to use caution on open waters. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and prepare for potential tree damage or power outages.
The strongest winds are anticipated during the daytime hours on Monday, gradually decreasing by late evening. Motorists, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should plan for extended travel times and shifting visibility.
