Reno drivers may face flooded lanes and sudden downpours Tuesday afternoon as storms sweep across western Nevada at the start of Labor Day travel week.

According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday evening, with the strongest storms expected Tuesday after midday. Showers and thunderstorms may cause localized flooding along I-580 and U.S. 395, slowing commuters and holiday travelers heading south.

Storm chances reach 80% Tuesday, with temperatures peaking near 82. Winds will shift west at 5 mph, increasing the chance of isolated downbursts during stronger cells. Sparks, Carson City, and Fernley could also see afternoon flooding in low-lying areas. Officials advise drivers to avoid high water, charge mobile devices, and limit non-essential travel if storms intensify.

Tuesday night will remain unsettled with scattered storms before skies gradually clear by Wednesday morning. A brief break follows Wednesday afternoon, though showers could linger east of Reno. Sunshine returns by Thursday, bringing more stable conditions through the weekend.

Labor Day travelers should plan for dry roads and warm temperatures by Friday. Highs will climb into the upper 80s with mostly sunny skies expected across northern Nevada, creating favorable weather for barbecues, parades, and outdoor events.
