LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Extreme desert heat will grip southern Nevada this weekend, with triple-digit temperatures persisting into early next week. Drivers and residents should brace for scattered thunderstorms that could bring localized flooding and dangerous lightning.

According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday with highs near 107°F. By Sunday, temperatures will hover around 104°F, and scattered storms could sweep into Clark County. Gusty winds and heavy downpours may impact travel on Interstate 15 and other regional highways.

Saturday night will bring a brief cool down, with lows around 87°F. However, the heat quickly rebounds Sunday afternoon. Showers and isolated thunderstorms may develop after 8 a.m., especially across the Las Vegas Valley and nearby foothills. Residents should limit outdoor activity, hydrate frequently, and prepare for sudden weather changes.

The week ahead brings little relief. Monday’s high could reach 103°F, again with a 50% chance of afternoon storms. Similar conditions will stretch through Tuesday, with muggy air and temperatures near 95°F expected midweek. Lightning and localized flooding risks will linger each evening.

Officials urge residents to avoid hiking during peak heat, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets inside vehicles. Cooling shelters remain open in Clark County for those without reliable air conditioning.

The next update from the National Weather Service will highlight developing storm activity. Warnings could extend further into next week depending on thunderstorm intensity.
